Code2College: AI Demo Day
On August 9, 2024, Code2College held its inaugural AI Demo Day, showcasing the talents of young students. These future tech leaders, some as young as 15 and 16, took the stage with confidence to present AI-driven projects developed over 8 weeks of hard work during the AI Developer Fellows Program, which allowed students to immerse themselves in the exciting and rapidly evolving world of artificial intelligence.
Students spent their summers not only learning cutting-edge AI technologies but also applying those skills to real-world challenges through their projects. From enhancing accessibility to improving gaming experiences, these projects reflect the range of causes supported and creativity within our student cohort.
The AI Developer Fellows presented projects that were both innovative and practical, proving that age is no barrier to creating technology that can change the world. Projects included:
Instruct AI: A powerful tool designed to provide step-by-step guidance during the assembly process, providing both instruction and real-time mistake identification.
Workout Trainer AI: An AI-powered application aimed at helping individuals achieve their fitness goals from the comfort of home.
AI Music Assistant: An AI application that uses sound recognition to help people learn to play the piano, providing real-time feedback on the accuracy of notes.
Play Next AI: Play Next AI helps users discover new games based on their gaming preferences by tracking movements and choices made during gaming sessions.
Sign Language AI: The winning team, Sign Language AI, developed a unique application designed to help bridge the gap between hearing and deaf or hard of hearing individuals. Their AI recognizes specific hand movements and offers real-time corrections, helping users learn American Sign Language (ASL).
The event also featured a panel of influential STEM leaders who shared insights on AI’s role in the future of technology, the importance of diversity in tech, and how students can continue to grow in the field.
Panelists included Morgan Flager (Managing Partner, Silverton Partners), Jan Ryan (Faculty, University of Texas Austin), Heidi Marquez Smith (CEO, Texas Cultural Trust) and Tyson Tuttle (CEO, Circuit and former CEO of Silicon Labs).
Interested in experiencing it for yourself? Google will be hosting the Code2College Fall AI Developer Fellow Cohort at their Austin office for Code2College Winter AI Demo Day on December 13, 2024. We’re thrilled to see what exciting new AI projects this next group of students will present. The energy and innovation that they bring to the table are sure to impress, and we can’t wait to share it with you all!
